Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

The Nursing Program Director is responsible for all aspects of the programs, including the administration, planning, continuous review, development, and general effectiveness of the programs.

 

Classification

 Program Administrator, Staff, Exempt

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Nursing programs, aligning them with the college mission and goals.
  • Ensure programs compliance with the state Board of Nursing regulations.
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff within the Nursing programs.
  • Perform systematic review of programs effectiveness through data analysis, assessment and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the chief advocate for the programs and serve as a liaison with health care facilities, presenting a positive image of the college to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate Nursing curriculum.
  • Develop, implement and monitor program budgets in an educational environment.
  • Develop, implement and monitor program policies and procedures.
  • Utilize interpersonal skills and sound judgment to determine how duties and responsibilities are assigned and completed between the Nursing Faculty and Staff Team.
  • Recruit, orient and mentor Nursing Faculty and Staff.
  • Collaborate with the college’s office of Public Relations to develop recruitment and marketing plans.
  • Participate in student recruitment, retention, advising and registration activities.
  • May be required to cover student instruction on an as-needed basis due to extenuating circumstances.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, preferably through an MSN in nursing education or doctorate degree in Nursing with an education emphasis.
  • Minimum two years clinical experience, prefer five years’ experience

 

Knowledge and Skills           

  • Two years full-time teaching experience in Board of Nursing approved program. Leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent supervisory, administrative, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills in handling and directing multiple and complex assignments and projects.
  • Skill in working effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, college employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to students, faculty, advisory boards and administration.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and productively with other Health Science programs on interdisciplinary learning activities.
  • The ability to implement quality improvement measures
  • Ability to coordinate and execute courses, clinics, and simulations across campuses and clinical sites.

 

Physical Demands   

Ability to assist students in clinic sites.  Ability to utilize nursing equipment.

 

Licensing Requirement       

Unencumbered, current North Carolina RN license.

Valid Driver’s NC license

 

Working Conditions and Environment

Typical campus environment.  Travel to clinical sites and training locations.  May work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Nursing Equipment, Strong computer proficiency, and Standard office equipment
