Sharon Muckenfuss, TRIAD OHN, a pioneer and leader in Occupational Health died on July 30th 2022

Posted over 1 year ago by Julia Dixon

Sharon graduated from nursing school at Baptist Hospital and became a giant defender of those in her care and a pioneer in her life of service.

Sharon served most of her nursing career as an occupational health nurse for Gilbarco, Inc. In that role she treated workplace accidents and more, but she also led the company to expand preventative care and early detection efforts for health problems among employees.  Her role expanded to encompass employee benefits for the company, and she was able to make sure that those working for the company were well supported for their overall health.  She networked with others through the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN,) and served as its President for some time. She took her role seriously, and once testified before Congress regarding occupational health and safety regulations.

After she retired, Sharon continued her nursing, expressing her faith through her work as a congregational health nurse.  She served a small church with the same vigor that she had with her company in the rest of her career, tirelessly working to teach habits of prevention and early detection to an underserved population.
