As a telephonic Nurse Case Manager at Wegmans, you will act as a resource to employees throughout the company on disability and other employee well-being related matters.  Being the divisional point person for medical case management, you will ensure employees receive appropriate and quality care as well as maximum medical improvement, and timely return to work in Workers’ Compensation, lost time, and short-term disability cases.

What will I do?

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by advocating for our employees and the company through effective verbal and written communication; promote wellness in partnership with internal benefits programs and area medical providers.
  • Facilitate appropriate, timely medical care; advocate for and assist injured workers with achieving maximum medical improvement and/or full duty return to work as soon as it is medically safe.
  • Provide caring conversations while emphasizing our commitment to keeping our people and customers safe.
  • Support Human Resources to help clarify return-to-work recommendations and transitional duty opportunities. Provide guidance to assist with company employment policies and participation in area Medical Meetings.
  • Assist claim adjusters with authorization of medical procedures and treatment; make recommendations regarding FCE’s and IME’s when appropriate
  • Follow ‘Claims Handling Best Practices’ in administration of all required claim activity and documentation of same
  • Follow all local, state, and federal laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, Workers’ Compensation) and Wegmans Policies and Work Rules; comply with national case management standards as well as nursing code of conduct.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Legal departments on decision making for complex or unusual cases or circumstances.
  • Monitor occupational injury and safety trends and make appropriate referrals; participate in division safety and well-being team meetings as appropriate.
  • Identify when changes can be made to improve comfort, safety, and ease of performance of job tasks and make referrals to Wegmans’ Ergonomists.
  • Assist EHS and the Division with recommendations regarding requirements for pre-employment testing and annual testing based on best hiring practices, Wegmans’ policies, and OSHA standards and regulations, including communication with the Occupational Medicine Healthcare Provider as needed.


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Registered Professional Nurse License in at least one of the following states: NY, PA, VA, NC, NJ, MA, or MD
  • 5 or more years clinical nursing experience
  • 2 or more years of case management
  • Working knowledge of Worker’ Compensation, Disability, FMLA, and ADA

Preferred Experience:

  • CCM (Certified Case Manager) or COHN (Certified Occupational Health Nurse)- If not currently certified in either, must be willing to obtain CCM within 36 months
