Dear NCAOHN Members,
The Occupational Health & Safety Manager Position for Wake County, NC is open until 9/23.
This job supervises two RNs who function independently.
We, for the major portion, are a “Paper Program” – lots of paper and little hands-on!
We medically evaluate New Hires on paper (no generic physical exams), run the Respiratory Protection Program (do Initial medical evaluation and conduct or oversee Fit-testers doing Annual Fit-testing) and TB Screening Programs (conduct Symptoms Surveys and Annual TB Skin testing), and handle loads of Excel spreadsheets and paperwork.
UL/PURE OHS is in the process of developing an Electronic Medical Records System for us, so that paper burden should improve greatly!
There is no involvement with Work Comp or any disability/work accommodations. That is totally handled by the County Risk Manager’s Office.
There is No Emergency Response – 911 is called. We are next door to Wake Med Hospital.
There are no Drug testing, Chemical Surveillance, lab work, or Hearing Conservation Programs. The main customers are Health Dept Clinic staff. Lots of Social Services staff are New Hires, but they don’t get TB tests or Resp Protection, so we don’t have anything much to do with them after that.
We have a special ON-CALL PHONE and take turns being On-Call for the County employees and the non-County Police and Fire employees (working for the County’s Towns and Municipalities) who have health exposures after hours (not many calls). The Risk Managers for the non-County employees take over in the AM. We provide instructions on what they all need to do/where to go, document and refer to Risk Management, get lab results on BBP exposures for the healthcare provider follow-up, refer County employees to County Follow-up providers, and sometimes fight with the hospital staff!
There is no Occupational Health Case Management under this system. It’s all Risk Management
We are allowed to work remotely 2 days a week right now and work it out between ourselves.
If you are interested, please don’t wait.
I am hoping that I am reaching that “right” person. Call me if you want to talk about it.
Thanks so much for your consideration!
